In this episode of The Pod of Inquiry, Dr. Stephen Barrett sits down with George Wiseman, founder of Eagle Research and inventor of the AquaCure Brown’s Gas machine, to explore the science, history, and therapeutic potential of Brown’s Gas—a unique hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture that George believes could transform how we think about healing and chronic disease.
From its origins in automotive engineering to its use in health applications, George explains what makes Brown’s Gas different from conventional hydrogen therapy, why it has attracted both passionate supporters and skeptics, and the science he believes is driving its effects.
In This Episode you’ll discover:
- What Brown’s Gas is and how it differs from ordinary hydrogen gas
- The physics behind “electrically expanded water”
- Why Brown’s Gas dramatically improved fuel efficiency in engine testing
- How an industrial technology found its way into health and wellness
- The proposed mechanisms behind inflammation reduction and tissue repair
- Safety considerations for Brown’s Gas inhalation
- George’s personal journey after losing his wife and how it shaped his work
- Remarkable case reports involving diabetes, chronic conditions, and advanced cancer
Whether you’re interested in hydrogen therapy, regenerative medicine, alternative health, or emerging medical technologies, this episode offers a thought-provoking look at one of the most unconventional ideas in modern wellness.

George Wiseman
George Wiseman is an inventor, engineer, and founder of Eagle-Research, best known for his decades of work developing Brown’s Gas technology for both energy and emerging wellness applications. Raised as a rancher’s son in a remote, off-grid environment, George learned early how to build, repair, and survive with limited resources, which influenced his lifelong commitment to practical and reliable innovation.
After leaving the ranch in the late 1970s, he pursued a path in alternative energy and automotive systems, eventually specializing in fuel efficiency and combustion technologies. In the 1980s, he began developing Brown’s Gas systems that could significantly improve fuel economy and even replace traditional torch gases at a fraction of the cost.
Over time, George’s work took an unexpected turn as customers began reporting potential health-related effects from the technology—something he initially dismissed. Years later, after personally experimenting with the applications and witnessing growing anecdotal results, he shifted his focus toward exploring its broader potential and developed his at-home device, AquaCure.
This mission became deeply personal following the loss of his wife after a long battle with Lupus, which intensified his commitment to sharing what he had learned. Today, George is driven by a singular goal: to make his technology accessible to as many people as possible.
Show Notes from this episode
[00:00] — Introduction
Dr. Barrett introduces guest George Wiseman and previews a conversation on Brown’s Gas, electrically expanded water, and its role in chronic disease management, plus George’s special listener discount code.
[01:27] — The cannula, explained
George explains he’s inhaling Brown’s Gas live on the show. He clarifies the terminology: Brown’s Gas is mostly molecular hydrogen and oxygen, plus a fraction of electrically expanded water (EXW) — negatively charged H2O — distinguishing it from ordinary oxyhydrogen.
From a Montana Ranch to Self-Taught Inventor
[03:54] — Off-grid childhood
Born in Missoula, Montana, George grew up on a remote British Columbia ranch with no electricity or running water, hauling lake water by truck and melting snow on a wood stove — an upbringing that shaped his relentless fix-it-once mechanical mindset.
[06:51] — Becoming an inventor
After a falling-out with his father over the family ranch, George became a self-employed inventor in 1984, starting with fuel-saving devices as carburetors gave way to fuel injection.
The Physics of Brown’s Gas and Fuel Efficiency
[08:16] — How an electrolyzer works
George breaks down the electrolysis process — splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen — and explains why introducing that gas as a catalyst (not a fuel) lowers the energy needed to break hydrocarbon bonds during combustion.
[14:13] — Doubling gas mileage
George describes routinely doubling fuel economy on Ford trucks, and running a GMC pickup on an onboard cracking plant that achieved over 200 miles per gallon.
[15:15] — Why isn’t this everywhere?
George recounts Shell’s own engineers hitting 400+ miles per gallon in a mileage competition — before the program was shut down by the petroleum company itself.
From Cars to Humans: The Origin of Brown’s Gas Therapy
[17:28] — Naming Brown’s Gas
The gas takes its name from Yul Brown, who commercialized it worldwide after William Rhodes originally patented it in Phoenix in the early 1960s. Early industrial uses included neutralizing radioactive waste and tripling ore yields in mining.
[18:52] — The chiropractor who crossed the abyss
Chiropractor Lloyd Jacob first applied Brown’s Gas transdermally to patients using oxygen therapy. Early anecdotes followed: radishes grown four times faster in gas-bubbled water, koi fish growing three times faster, and a forehead melanoma that resolved in three weeks.
[21:17] — George’s own experiment
In 2005, George began drinking Brown’s Gas–bubbled (hydrogen-rich) water himself and reports not having been meaningfully sick since.
Safety, Combustibility, and Dosing
[22:26] — Explosion stories and the safety physics
George details real explosion incidents and explains the lower combustible limit of hydrogen (4.7% in air) — the physics behind why properly dialed-in inhalation is safe even though Brown’s Gas itself is combustible.
[24:41] — A carpal tunnel case resolved without surgery
A surgery-bound carpal tunnel patient received transdermal Brown’s Gas treatments three times daily for three days and was left pain-free with no residual tendon abnormality.
[29:31] — The 2% sweet spot
Citing hydrogen-therapy research, George explains why 2% hydrogen concentration is the efficacious ceiling — with no added benefit above that level and well below the 4.7% danger threshold.
A Personal Story of Loss — and Discovery
[32:29] — Caring for his late wife
George shares the difficult story of his years-long role as full-time caretaker for his late wife’s severe illness, and her passing in March 2016.
[37:30] — The first inhalation
In the depths of grief, George decided to inhale Brown’s Gas himself for the first time — recorded on video — beginning what would become a daily practice.
[39:20] — Unexpected effects
George describes psoriasis clearing from his skin and the return of his libido as early, unmistakable signs that something physiological was changing.
A Nootropic Effect, Depression, and Disease Reversal
[41:57] — Focus and productivity
George now inhales roughly eight hours a day and reports sustained alertness and productivity without caffeine — plus anecdotes of a doctor in Germany prescribing Brown’s Gas for depression.
[43:34] — Reversing diabetes and stage 4 cancer
George shares the stories of an affiliate who avoided a foot amputation by reversing his diabetes, and a stage 4 breast cancer patient given two weeks to live who used Brown’s Gas as her sole intervention.
